What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in health and sterilisation. Registering your interest ensures you are the first to know when the assessment pathway is open.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge demand and accelerate the onboarding of RTO partners. It also gives you a head start in understanding the evidence requirements for the Certificate III in Sterilisation Services.
Is RPL the same as completing a study course?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills you have already gained on the job. It results in the same nationally recognised qualification as a traditional course, but it respects the time you have already spent in the industry.
Does my experience in a private dental or day surgery clinic count?
Yes, provided your experience aligns with the national units of competency. The assessment focuses on your ability to clean, disinfect, and sterilise reusable medical devices regardless of the clinical setting.
What happens if I have gaps in my sterilisation experience?
If the RTO's assessor identifies areas where your evidence is insufficient, they will provide targeted gap training. This allows you to build on your existing foundation without needing to repeat the areas where you are already competent.
