What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in this qualification. While we cannot facilitate assessment today, registering your interest ensures you are notified the moment the pathway becomes active.

Is RPL the same as completing a course?
Recognition of Prior Learning is an assessment-only pathway. It does not involve new study; instead, it provides a structured way for a qualified assessor to verify that your existing work experience meets the national standards for the qualification.
What if I have been operating as a self-employed artist?
Self-employed practitioners are well-positioned for RPL. Your evidence may include business records, client testimonials, and a comprehensive portfolio of healed work to demonstrate your autonomous application of specialised skills.
Will my infection control knowledge be assessed?
Yes. As cosmetic tattooing involves skin penetration, demonstrating competency in infection control and Australian health standards is a critical component of the assessment process conducted by the RTO.
