About This Qualification
This qualification reflects the job role of Wood Machinists who work in a sawmill or other timber processing environment and set up, operate and maintain machines such as large automated planers/moulders and saws to cut, plane and profile timber to specifications.
Important: RPL It Australia is a student support service. All assessment and qualification issuance is conducted by the delivering Registered Training Organisation. RPL It does not deliver training, conduct assessments, or issue qualifications.

What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

Is RPL for the Certificate III in Wood Machining currently available?
We are currently in the process of building partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in this qualification. While not immediately available, registering your interest ensures you are notified as soon as the pathway is open.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering interest allows us to gauge industry demand and prioritise the development of this specific recognition pathway. It also places you at the front of the queue for a free skills review once a partner RTO is secured.
Is RPL the same as a traditional apprenticeship?
No. While both lead to the same nationally recognised qualification, RPL is an assessment-only pathway that acknowledges the skills you have already gained on the job, rather than requiring you to learn them from scratch.
What if my experience is mostly with older machinery?
The assessment process looks for competency against current national standards. If your evidence shows you understand the principles of wood machining but lack experience with newer automated systems, the RTO may identify specific gaps for targeted training.
How do I prove my skills without a written portfolio?
Your dedicated consultant will guide you in gathering diverse evidence, which can include video demonstrations of you setting up machines, supervisor testimonials, and technical drawings you have worked from.
