About This Qualification
This qualification reflects the role of people who work as timber systems designers or estimators in the timber truss and frame industry. In these roles they are required to create drawings and produce estimates of material quantities and costs for timber frames or trusses from architectural plans and drawings and communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
Important: RPL It Australia is a student support service. All assessment and qualification issuance is conducted by the delivering Registered Training Organisation. RPL It does not deliver training, conduct assessments, or issue qualifications.

What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in timber manufacturing. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when we have a confirmed pathway for this qualification.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge market demand and prioritise the onboarding of specific RTO partners. It also ensures you are positioned for an initial skills review as soon as the assessment process is finalised.
Is RPL the same as studying for this qualification?
No. While the resulting qualification is identical, RPL is an assessment-only pathway that recognises the skills you have already acquired on the job, whereas traditional study is designed for those still learning the trade.
What software experience is relevant for this RPL process?
Assessors will typically look for proficiency in industry-standard design software used for timber systems, such as MiTek, Pryda, or similar CAD-based platforms used in truss plants.
Will I need to demonstrate my design skills in person?
As part of the formal assessment, the RTO's assessor may request a practical demonstration or a technical interview to verify that the evidence in your portfolio is your own work and meets national standards.
