What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?

Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.

You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

What kind of finishes are assessed in this qualification?+
The assessment typically covers a range of techniques, including surface preparation, staining, and the application of various coatings such as oils, waxes, or spray finishes used in furniture manufacture.
How do I prove my skills if I don't have a current job?+
Evidence can be gathered from your recent work history. This includes photos of previous projects, references from past employers, and any technical documentation you have produced in previous furniture finishing roles.
What does registering my interest mean?+
Registering your interest means you'd like to be notified when this qualification becomes available through RPL. There's no commitment. We'll contact you when an RTO partnership is confirmed for this qualification.

RPL It works with partner RTOs to deliver qualifications. We're currently exploring RTO partnerships for this qualification. Registering your interest helps us prioritise which qualifications to focus on next.
What happens after I register my interest?+
You'll receive a confirmation, and we'll keep your details on file. When a partner RTO is confirmed for this qualification, we'll contact you with the next steps, including how to start your free skills review.
Can I still do a free skills review for this qualification?+
Yes. A free skills review helps you understand whether your experience aligns with the qualification requirements, regardless of whether an RTO partner is currently available. It's a useful first step while you wait.
