What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?

Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.

You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?+
We are currently in the process of identifying and vetting Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partners who meet our standards for crane operation assessment. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is open.
Why should I register my interest now?+
Registering allows us to gauge demand and accelerate our partnership process. It also ensures you receive a preliminary review of your experience so you are ready to move forward as soon as an RTO partner is secured.
Is RPL the same as just buying the certificate?+
No. Recognition of Prior Learning is a rigorous assessment process. A qualified assessor from a partner RTO will evaluate your evidence to ensure it meets the national standards. It is a respect-based pathway, not a transactional one.
How does my existing High Risk Work Licence work with RPL?+
Your current HRWL is excellent evidence of your practical competency. During the RPL process, an assessor will use your licence alongside your work history to verify that you meet the specific units required for the full qualification.
What happens if I have experience but no formal paperwork?+
Documentation is essential for evidence. If you lack specific records, we can guide you on how to capture your current work through photos, videos, and statutory declarations to demonstrate your competency to an assessor.
Will my dogging and rigging skills be recognised?+
Yes, this qualification includes core units related to dogging. If you have experience or existing units in these areas, they will be factored into your evidence portfolio to avoid any unnecessary repetition.
What does registering my interest mean?+
Registering your interest means you'd like to be notified when this qualification becomes available through RPL. There's no commitment. We'll contact you when an RTO partnership is confirmed for this qualification.
Why isn't this qualification available yet?+
RPL It works with partner RTOs to deliver qualifications. We're currently exploring RTO partnerships for this qualification. Registering your interest helps us prioritise which qualifications to focus on next.
What happens after I register my interest?+
You'll receive a confirmation, and we'll keep your details on file. When a partner RTO is confirmed for this qualification, we'll contact you with the next steps, including how to start your free skills review.
Can I still do a free skills review for this qualification?+
Yes. A free skills review helps you understand whether your experience aligns with the qualification requirements, regardless of whether an RTO partner is currently available. It's a useful first step while you wait.
