What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?

Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.

You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

Registering your interest allows us to gauge demand from senior fire officers. This direct feedback helps us prioritise our RTO partnerships and keeps you informed as soon as a formal recognition pathway becomes available.
Is RPL the same as completing a management course?+
No. Recognition of Prior Learning is an assessment process, not a teaching program. It is designed for those who already possess the skills and knowledge required by the qualification, allowing them to demonstrate their competency through evidence rather than study.
What level of fire service experience is typically required?+
This Advanced Diploma is aimed at senior management. Candidates typically have extensive experience as commissioned officers or senior managers responsible for strategic planning, policy review, and managing large-scale emergency incidents.
Can volunteer fire service experience be used as evidence?+
Experience is evidence, regardless of whether it was gained in a career or volunteer capacity, provided it meets the required senior management level and can be documented against the national competency standards.
What does registering my interest mean?+
Registering your interest means you'd like to be notified when this qualification becomes available through RPL. There's no commitment. We'll contact you when an RTO partnership is confirmed for this qualification.

What happens after I register my interest?+
You'll receive a confirmation, and we'll keep your details on file. When a partner RTO is confirmed for this qualification, we'll contact you with the next steps, including how to start your free skills review.
Can I still do a free skills review for this qualification?+
Yes. A free skills review helps you understand whether your experience aligns with the qualification requirements, regardless of whether an RTO partner is currently available. It's a useful first step while you wait.
